Position- Staff Archaeologist

The City of St. Augustine Archaeology Program is seeking a full-time, permanent Staff Archaeologist. The Staff Archaeologist provides professional skills, knowledge, and judgement relative to assisting other archaeology staff with the documentation, management, and preservation of archaeological resources within the City’s limits as stipulated in the City’s Archaeological Preservation Ordinance. Under the guidance of the City Archaeologist, the Staff Archaeologist is responsible for implementing archaeological survey assessments, excavating historical and precontact sites; and monitoring building and/or utility construction within designated archaeological zones. While primarily a field position, work will include assisting in the laboratory with analyzing cultural material and collections management; preparation of project reports; and supporting outreach activities.  The position is responsible for assisting with the coordinating and managing of volunteers in the field and maintaining professional relationships with City staff and the public. Work is performed under the guidance of the Research and Collections Archaeologist and the direction and supervision of the City Archaeologist.
