Announcement- Nominations for the SAA Collections and Curation Awards

Nominations for the SAA Collections and Curation Awards
Awards nominations will soon open for the Society for American Archaeology awards for 2022-2023 (awarded in March of 23). I strongly encourage you to apply for this award on behalf of yourself or another who has done exemplary work in the overarching field of archaeological collections. As we all know, collections-based work and research is not often lauded, and professional staff working with those collections receive little to no recognition. This is your opportunity to create change in that area!
Nominations are DUE Dec 1.

Please email jenna.domeischel@gmail.com with any questions. Please note that there are TWO independent awards described below.

Award Description (Excellence in Curation and Collections Management)
This award is given yearly to recognize excellence in curation and collections management: including advances in collections intake, documentation (including data basing), maintenance, conservation, and/or accessibility.

Candidates may include individuals employed by repositories/museums; federal, state, tribal, or local government agencies; academic departments; and similar institutions that have advanced the curation and management of archaeological collections during recovery in the field or during acquisition, documentation, maintenance, conservation, and/or use within a repository.

Award Description (Excellence in Collections-based Research and Collections-based Education)
This award is given yearly to recognize excellence in collections-based research, collections-based education, or work that combines both. This award recognizes advances in the use of existing collections to address innovative research questions and/or research that enhances the potential of these collections (including "legacy collections") for understanding the past. It also recognizes outstanding uses of existing collections for innovative approaches to teaching (at any level) or for museum exhibitions.

Candidates may include individuals employed by repositories/museums; federal, state, tribal, or local government agencies; academic departments; and similar institutions that have advanced the curation and management of archaeological collections during recovery in the field or during acquisition, documentation, maintenance, conservation, and/or use within a repository.
