Position – Assistant/Associate Professor

The Department of Anthropology and Middle Eastern Cultures (AMEC) at Mississippi State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in North American Archaeology.

The successful candidate will have a research focus in the Southeastern U.S. and the Woodland and/or Mississippian periods, and demonstrate a strong commitment to both graduate and undergraduate teaching and mentoring. Teaching responsibility is five courses per year, to include introductory, upper division, and graduate instruction, including a course focused on public or community archaeology. The candidate will also be expected to develop and teach a summer field school (which includes both excavation and regional site survey). Experience in cultural resource management and membership in Phi Beta Kappa is preferred.

AMEC is a dynamic, growing department offering an anthropology major and Middle Eastern studies minor, with an applied anthropology MA program. AMEC is housed within the Cobb Institute of Archaeology, and the successful candidate will be a Senior Research Associate of the Cobb Institute. A strong, active research agenda with the potential for involving graduate students is crucial to this position as the candidate is expected to contribute to the applied MA archaeology/bioarchaeology track.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Position available: August 16th 2019, with academic year beginning Fall 2019.

Basic qualifications: Applicant must have a PhD or equivalent foreign degree in Anthropology or closely related field. PhD must be in hand by August 16th 2019. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong research activity and an excellent record of teaching.
