Conference – International Gullah Geechee African Diaspora Conference

The inaugural International Gullah Geechee and African Diaspora Conference will be held at Coastal Carolina University on March 7-9, 2019. The keynote speaker is noted filmmaker and anthropologist Sheila Walker, and we are honored to welcome such scholars as Joseph Opala, Cynthia Schmidt, Edda Fields-Black, Emory Campbell, Herman Blake, Margaret Cooper and Edmund Abaka.

There will also be exciting performances by the Geechee Gullah Ring Shouters from Darien, Georgia, television personalities Ron and Natalie Daise, storyteller Aunt Pearlie Sue, Dr. Marlena Smalls and Charleston, South Carolina poet laureate Marcus Amaker.
