Position – Postdoctoral Associate in Heritage Tourism

Postdoctoral Associate 124190 in Heritage Tourism

The University of West Florida, Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN) invites applicants to fill a two-year post-doctoral research fellowship position in heritage tourism program analysis and development. FPAN is a unit within the Division of Anthropology and Archaeology of the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, located in downtown Pensacola. For more information consult www.fpan.us.

The 25 counties of FPAN’s Northwest and North Central Regions contain some museums and heritage tourism attractions, but huge gaps exist in the programs offered to engage and educate citizens and visitors. The attractions in place possess a range of resources in terms of heritage, funding, and interpretive expertise, and enjoy little cooperation in order to leverage visitation. We expect the incumbent in this position to 1) inventory and analyze the existing heritage tourism infrastructure and gauge its current economic impact, and 2) develop a strategic plan for assessing interpretive approaches and for creating and/or enhancing heritage tourism attractions. The long-term goal is to improve Northwest and North Central Florida’s heritage tourism infrastructure to better deliver a cultural heritage preservation message while promoting economic development through heritage tourism.

The successful candidate will be familiar with the heritage tourism industry, interpretive strategies, attraction development, economic and educational program data collection and assessment, and long-term strategic planning. The scholar will have completed a doctoral program in Anthropology, History, Historic Preservation, Museum Studies or other relevant field of study.

Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.

Salary: $45,000 - $55,000

Applications must be submitted electronically at https://jobs.uwf.edu. The preferred response date for the posting is 2/15/16 but the posting will remain open until filled.
