The Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences invites

offers a BA in Anthropology, a BS in Sociology, and an MA in Social Sciences. The degree programs in
sociology and anthropology are designed to foster intellectual development in logical thinking, literacy,
numeracy, historical consciousness, scientific inquiry, diversity, and social values.
Position Description. Reporting to the department chair, the Academic Professional of Anthropology will
serve as the director of the archaeology lab and the curator of the repository. S/he will be expected to
direct collections curation, laboratory activities, equipment and fleet purchasing and maintenance, and
will typically teach two specialty archaeology courses per year. Collections curation will include
direction of a new 6200 square foot repository; development and/or implementation of a management
system for artifacts, documents, images, and data; upgrading existing collections; creating protocols,
forms, and institutional documents related to curation activities; and directing student labor.
Laboratory activities include organization and operation of approx. 8000 square feet of research and
teaching lab space; coordination of archaeological analysis by students and visiting researchers; and
liaison to Information Technology services on campus. Equipment and fleet responsibilities include
inventory, purchasing, and maintenance of field and laboratory equipment, and coordination of periodic
maintenance of the archaeology transportation fleet. Typically the academic professional will work
business hours, with some nights and weekends. The position is a full‐time, non‐tenure‐track position
with a 12 month contract. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
● Earned doctorate in Anthropology or Archaeology
● Demonstrated experience in curation and collections management
● Research and/or teaching experience in one or more archaeological specialties: curation,
shallow geophysics, archaeobotany, zooarchaeology, compliance archaeology, etc.
● Demonstrated experience in supervising archaeological analyses
● Excellent organizational skills
● Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without
assistance from the institution
● Experience working with advanced archaeological technology
● Knowledge of Compliance Archaeology
