Position: Mississippi Archaeology Survey Site File Registrar

This is a time limited position. The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) is seeking a Mississippi Archaeology Survey (MAS) Site File Registrar to join the Historic Preservation Division. This position plays a vital role within the Archaeology Section and reports directly to the Chief Archaeologist. The MAS Site File Registrar is responsible for assigning archaeological site trinomials, maintaining the site file search room, and updating the Historic Sites Management Tool (HSMT) in support of MDAH's mission to identify, register, protect, and share information about archaeological resources across the state. In addition to overseeing the site file database, the Registrar will write and edit cultural resource survey reports and review Phase I archaeological reports, scopes of work, research designs, and cultural resource assessments to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. The Registrar will also maintain archaeology report logs and review databases, coordinate with MAS personnel on data entry and GIS needs, and provide technical assistance as required. This position will serve as the technical Principal Investigator for projects involving Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) investigations, including data collection, post-processing, and interpretation, as well as direct oversight of field investigations. The Registrar will also contribute to public outreach efforts, assist with planning and executing educational programs and events, and support the processing of archaeological collections—including cataloging, cleaning, documenting, and rehousing materials in accordance with 36 CFR 79. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the Archaeology Section's work and the agency's broader preservation mission.
