Information for Authors

Southeastern Archaeology publishes papers on the prehistoric and historical archaeology of southeastern North America and neighboring regions. Papers need not have been presented at a meeting of the Southeastern Archaeological Conference in order to be considered for publication. All articles and reports are subject to peer review.

Manuscripts submitted for initial review may be submitted in one of two ways. Authors are encouraged to send the manuscript (including tables and figures) electronically to the Editor a single, integrated PDF. Alternatively, a copy of the manuscript should be submitted to the Editor on a CD with the text in Word or Wordperfect. Manuscripts should be double spaced with ample margins throughout. Style should conform to the detailed Society for American Archaeology Journal Style Guide (revised January 2003); first-level headings should be typed in lower case with the first letter of major words capitalized, and authors' and editors' first names should be spelled out in the references. An abstract and a note on collections, if appropriate, should accompany each article. Submissions should not exceed 12,000 words (including references).

Final versions of the manuscripts must be submitted as Word or Wordperfect files. Final versions of illustrative material, if prepared in electronic format, should be exportable in TIFF format at a resolution of at least 800 dpi. Do not place captions within figures. Tables should be set with a single tab (no spaces) between columns, and a hard return between rows.
