The Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences invites
applications and nominations for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Anthropology.

offers a BA in Anthropology, a BS in Sociology, and an MA in Social Sciences. The degree programs in
sociology and anthropology are designed to foster intellectual development in logical thinking, literacy,
numeracy, historical consciousness, scientific inquiry, diversity, and social values.

Position Description. Reporting to the department chair, the assistant or associate professor of
anthropology will be expected to teach Introduction to Anthropology, and to develop other
undergraduate and graduate courses related to historical archaeology, compliance archaeology, conflict
archaeology, and/or Civil War archaeology. This individual will serve as the Director of Archaeology at
Camp Lawton, a Civil War prison site located 40 miles from the university. The successful candidate is
expected to hold a terminal degree and be an active member of the department and university
community as demonstrated by pursuing an active research agenda, by serving on committees, and by
mentoring students. Specific rank will be determined by experience and productivity. The position is a
tenure‐track, 9‐month appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications
and experience.

Required Qualifications:
● Earned doctorate in Anthropology or Archaeology
● Demonstrated research productivity in Historical or Conflict Archaeology
● Experience teaching archaeological field school
● Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without
assistance from the institution

● A minimum of 5 years full‐time college/university teaching experience at the assistant professor
level is required for the rank of associate professor, along with a strong record of research and
service, with publications and presentations in professional venues

Preferred Qualifications:
● Research interest in Civil War archaeology
● Experience working with advanced archaeological technology
● Knowledge of Compliance Archaeology
● Expertise to teach an introductory biological anthropology course
● Demonstrated track record of extramural funding
